What is the deal with law schools asking if I'm gay?

Main Post:

I've had three law school applications ask if I identify as a member of the LGBT community, and the only two answers are "yes" or "no." There is not way to skip those questions. I find this highly inappropriate--why does it matter if I'm gay? If I were to answer "yes," would that increase my enrollment odds?

What is the deal with this? Since when do law schools care about who I want to have sex with?

Top Comment: Adds to the diversity of the campus population. I kind of think of it as a "soft URM." Not much of a boost at all unless they're looking for some LGBT representation they know where to go to. And an LGBT identity is generally not as simple as who you want to have sex with. I am, as a woman, in a monogamous relationship with a man, with whom I only want to have sex with. But I still identify with the LGBT community, politically and socially - and will likely be involved with any LGBT groups on campus and professionally. I do so vocally in order to increase visibility of bisexuals and LGBTs generally - so some 14 year old can look at future-successful me down the road and know you can be bisexual and a kick ass professional.

This is the full list of NSW schools who approve of discrimination against LGBTI+ students and teachers. They have asked the prime minister to grant them their right to fire gay teachers and expel gay students.

Top Comment: Apart from the fact it's 2018 and people still feel this is acceptable behaviour, it annoyed me the list of schools is only contained within images to tweets (EDIT: since deleted by the author due to it seems Twitter trolls) and a PDF document , which is hard for Google to index in their search. So... here I provide a table of the data (OCR'ed from the PDF) in the hope that future NSW based parents not stuck in the 1950's can review possible school choices for their kid(s) via a search engine of choice and stumble upon this thread... schools r becoming more gay

Main Post:

HELP- Is it just me or are Singaporean schools becoming more gay? 🏳️‍🌈😥LIKE WTF- Girl, before I entered secondary school, I assumed that a majority of people in my school are straight (there were 3 gay guys and 1 lesbian in my class) but now theres like an explosion of colours and different identities in my school. 🌈💁‍♀️ honestly, its so refreshing to see.. 🍋‍🟩💋

I think homophobia has become less prevalent since I was sec1 and the traditional group of “homophobic” guy’s aren’t even as judgey.. 💜💜 I mean.. they’re curious so they’ll ask if someone is “gay” but they wont ostracise gay people, they would mind their own business. 🤗🤗although, i did have an experience where someone said i was gna “burn in hell” bc i “act gay” even though i never confirmed it.. (cry abt it xoxo 💋😜) but whatever 😍 you’ll be in a warmer place too bbygirl 🔥🔥🥵🥵☀️☀️

honestly, now, my gaydar is working overtime analysing everyone in our school.. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈💯💯💯 omg there was also a crazy incident where a gay guy asked another gay guy to HUG NAKED IN THE TOILET- 😱😱😱 they were both sec2 so WTF- 🤮💜 it went viral on the school confession page.. HELP it was such a scandal everyone was LIVID!!

anyway, idk about other schools but in my school theres like so many lgbtq people.. maybe like 50+ ish? or even more idk..

like almost every girl im friends with is like “this anime character is so mommy” um okur weird.. personally, i dont like women. anyway, like almost everyone now is either gay bi lesbian or they dont like any gender..

i think terri joe, millie bobby brown, azalea banks & trisha paytas need to start giving talks at the schools.. 🤭🤭🤬🤬🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈

idk.. just my two cents 🥰💕life

(edit i graduated a few years ago so idk what happens now)

Homophobia still rife in NZ schools, especially PE

I went to an all-boys high school and I can certainly say homophobia is prominent in New Zealand schools. Two within my year group came out and they were pretty much ostracised by the student community.

All-boys schools brew a hyper-masculine environment, so many feel they need to be homophobic in order to feel they fit in and maintain a pecking order. It is more relaxed in co-ed schools.
